Modern Slavery Unit - Mini Edition

Session Length: 1 hour Age Group: 9-10

Just Enough sessions with the Volunteer Police Cadets are focused around discussion and storytelling to engage cadets. We believe in inspiring children to change the world by empowering them with knowledge. Cadets will challenge their preconceptions of ‘slavery’ and understand how they have the power to change the current situation, whether they are in law enforcement or not. They will understand the value of human life and how to respect each other.

Modern Slavery Unit - Junior Edition

Session Length: 1 hour Age Group: 10-12

Just Enough sessions with the Volunteer Police Cadets are focused around discussion and storytelling to engage pupils. We believe in inspiring children to change the world by empowering them with knowledge. To recognise the power of police, public and victims in the fight to stop modern slavery. To understand how authority figures can be seen negatively, and to work to change this within the public. Understand group responsibility for each other and how we are all linked to each other (via the Dunbar number and the 6 Degrees of Separation.)

Modern Slavery Unit - Senior Edition

Make a change and take action!

Session Length: 1 hour Age Group: 13-18

This Volunteer Police Cadet session looks at the provisions and safeguards in place for any child or adult to use if they are worried about modern day slavery and exploitation. It covers key terms of modern slavery and the laws that are in place. It provides opportunities for cadets to look deeper into the Modern Slavery Act (2015) and how they think survivors of modern slavery should be treated. The cadets will inspire others to; change their consumer choices, their awareness levels of modern slavery and begin to recognise the severity of this topic. Cadets can start a campaign in their local area that encourages awareness to help report and stop modern slavery.

Criminal Exploitation

Session Length: 1 hour Age Group 13-18

This Volunteer Police Cadet session encourages a discussion of the factors which influence criminals and the decisions they make. By understanding human nature, we can try to change the reasoning and justification criminals use for their behaviours. It explores how criminal behaviours are linked, and how gangs target children for this work. Child forced criminal exploitation is a form of modern slavery. Cadets should aim to think about what you lose following these lives.

Modern Slavery Unit - Senior Edition

Labour Exploitation

Session Length: 1 hour Age Group: 13-18

This session looks at the journey a slave may go through from exploitation to being rescued. Cadets should understand labour exploitation. To become aware of labour exploitation and how to understand a situation where slaves are kept. Cadets will think about the lives that those who are kept in slavery lead. They will think about ‘why do they stay?’, especially if they are allowed out of the house. Explore the difference between physical restraints and psychological restraints. Cadets will consider the fears that someone may experience after they have been rescued, appreciating the complexity of the situation and how those individuals have been made vulnerable.

At the end of each session provide pupils with a ‘Social Action Idea’ worksheet. Encourage the learning to extend outside of cadets - this is our world, lets make it better!

You may have noticed our app being mentioned around the website. It’s called ‘BLAH!’ and it is a news app to help children learn about the world and be encouraged that everything is okay! They can ask questions, do quizzes, and read the news. It’s completely free.
